The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a Notice of Intent on February 22 to delete three sites and partially delete eight other sites from the National Priorities List (NPL) while also requesting public comments on these proposed actions.

The NPL is an appendix of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP).

The EPA and state agencies have determined that all appropriate response actions have been completed on the sites. However, this deletion does not preclude future actions under Superfund.

Ten of the 11 proposed sites involve groundwater contamination. On the three fully deleted sites, the groundwater portions are proposed to be deleted with two sites meeting drinking water standards. On the remaining sites, groundwater continues to be monitored or treated.

Comments regarding this proposed action must be submitted on or before March 24, 2023.

The proposed site deletions are listed below by name, location, full or partial deletion, and indication of groundwater contamination:

  • Haviland complex, Town of Hyde Park, New York, full deletion, groundwater deleted and meeting drinking water standards
  • Smithtown Ground Water Contamination, Smithtown, New York, full deletion, groundwater deleted and meeting drinking water standards
  • Jackson Ceramix, Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Fort Hartford Coal Co. Stone Quarry, Olaton, Kentucky, full deletion, groundwater deleted with prior institutional control
  • Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Redstone Arsenal (USARMY/NASA), Huntsville, Alabama, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Aircraft Components (D & L Sales), Benton Harbor, Michigan, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Omaha Lead, Omaha, Nebraska, partial, soil of 13 properties deleted
  • Anaconda Co. Smelter, Anaconda, Montana, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Eagle Mine, Minturn/Redcliff, Colorado, partial, groundwater portion not deleted

Additionally, the EPA deleted portions or all of the following sites from the NPL on February 22:

  • U.S. Finishing/Cone Mills, Greenville, South Carolina, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • Wauconda Sand & Gravel, Wauconda, Illinois, partial, groundwater portion not deleted
  • River City Metal Finishing, San Antonio, Texas, full deletion, groundwater remediated and deleted for unrestricted use.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
