Dr. Solidea (Maria Cristina) Bonina is a Senior Environmental Consultant and Technical Expert for GEI Consultants, Inc. Dr. Bonina is a key member of the GEI PFAS Leadership Team and Steering Committee, with over 15 years of experience in environmental engineering, her work has covered a wide range of project aspects, including sampling and analysis procedures, chemistry, analytical methodologies, QA/QC, data quality, review, validation, evaluation, interpretation, and regulatory compliance of legacy and emerging contaminants (PFAS, PCBs, PAHs, VOC, SVOC, PBDEs, target phenols, metals, etc.) Previously, Dr. Bonina has gained extensive experience working at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Region 5 Analytical Services Branch (R5-ASB) supporting programs like the Office of Research Development (ORD) and the Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO). She specializes in developing new methodologies for PFAS analysis and led relevant projects evaluating emerging chemicals of concern. She also developed a cutting-edge method for the determination of PCBs congeners that is widely used across U.S. EPA programs. Her work with different USEPA Programs has been impactful as high-quality research, laboratory environmental analysis, analytical methodology development, data generation and quality control, etc. Dr. Bonina has been actively involved in high-impact environmental engineering research activities focusing on pollution of the Great Lakes for more than 15 years. Her work has been widely disseminated to the United States scientific community through her authorship/co-authorship of numerous significant refereed publications in the top scientific journals in her field. Importantly, her publications have been cited more than 500 times, demonstrating its impact on environmental science and policy.
