Pete Nyquist chairs Greenberg Glusker’s Environmental Practice Group and is recognized as one of California’s leading environmental litigators. He has been ranked in Chambers USA (Environment) since 2007 and has been named Los Angeles “Lawyer of the Year” for Environmental Law three times. Pete’s practice spans high-stakes litigation under CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Water Act, and related statutes, with experience in some of the nation’s most complex matters, including the Omega Chemical Superfund Site litigation, the Diamond Alkali Site (Passaic River), the San Diego Shipyard Sediment Site, and the San Gabriel Valley Superfund Sites.

Pete has also served as parachute trial counsel in multiple cases, delivering favorable outcomes on the eve of trial. Notably, he secured summary judgment for Union Pacific in a high-value action brought by municipal entities. In addition to litigation, Pete advises on brownfield redevelopment and emerging contaminant regulation, including PFAS investigations, compliance, and defense strategies. Clients value his ability to simplify complexity and deliver pragmatic, results-driven solutions.
