Associate Professor
University of Houston

Meng Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston. His research lies at the intersection of environmental engineering and biological chemistry, focusing on advancing biotechnology toward innovative solutions for pressing environmental challenges. His group applies interdisciplinary tools, such as synthetic biology, protein engineering, machine learning, and immobilization, to study and manipulate biological processes at the molecular level for applications ranging from contaminant removal to carbon sequestration and critical metal recovery. Meng earned his B.S. in Environmental Science from Nanjing University and M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also did two-year postdoctoral research. Prior to joining UH, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh from 2020 to 2025. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award, MWH/AEESP Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award (Second Place), and was selected as a Scialog Fellow for Negative Emissions Science.
