Emily completed her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa in 2023, and is continuing on with her PhD under Dr. Tim Mattes. In undergraduate, she began research with Dr. Jerry Schnoor, looking at phytoremediation and bioremediation of 1,4-dioxane contaminated groundwater. Her current research builds on this, looking deeper at the microbial processes in metabolism of 1,4-dioxane and using biochar as a carrier for microbes. She is also a recent recipient of a biotech training fellowship through the University of Iowa’s Center of Biocatalytics and Bioprocessing. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, reading, and playing the viola.
