Dr. Laurie LaPat-Polasko has more than 29 years of experience in groundwater and soil remediation and wastewater treatment. She combines her knowledge of microbiology with a background in civil engineering to develop cost-effective remediation solutions for sites impacted by organic and inorganic compounds. She has dealt with contaminants ranging from fluoride and arsenic to chlorinated solvents, explosives, PFAS, and fuel compounds. She has served as an expert witness for a variety of environmental cases. Dr. LaPat-Polasko has taught graduate courses in water and soil remediation at Arizona State University, where she is an adjunct faculty member. She received the 2018 Gold Medal Stevie Award for Woman of the Year in Technology and the 2020 Society of Women Engineer Prism Award.

- Has a bacterium named after her, Pseudomonas LP, which biodegrades methylene chloride .
